Teresa Ribera is a well-known Spanish politician who has made a significant impact in the world of environmental policies and sustainability. Born in Madrid in 1969, Ribera showed a passion for politics and environmental issues from a young age. She studied Law at the Complutense University of Madrid and received her PhD from the Autonomous University of Madrid.
Ribera’s career began in 1991 when she joined the Spanish Ministry of Environment, where she worked on international affairs and climate change policies. Later on, she became the Director-General for Climate Change and then the Secretary of State for Climate Change, making her the first woman to hold this position in Spain. During this time, she played a crucial role in the negotiations of the Paris Agreement and earned a reputation as a global leader in climate change discussions.
After leaving the Spanish government, Ribera became the Executive Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), where she continued to work towards promoting sustainable development on a global scale. In 2018, she returned to the political scene as Spain’s Minister for the Ecological Transition, overseeing policies related to climate change, energy, and environmental issues.
